Gastro unit

"We work closely with the consultants and nurses find it satisfying to be in a supporting and reassuring role with patients through their investigation and results. At the end of 2010 the unit will move location to the new Bowen Centre. The facility will then double in size and offer patients and staff an enhanced work environment."

The wide range of procedures and activities undertaken make it interesting for staff who enjoy the flexibility required by the change between fast-paced and quieter periods. Currently there’s one procedure room for colonoscopies, gastroscopies and flexible sigmoidoscopies, and three recovery beds. Between 80-100 endoscopic procedures are undertaken monthly. The unit hosts clinics for post-op follow-up, chronic pain management, gastroenterology and hepatitis C, and less regularly, ‘lumps and bumps’ lists for minor surgical procedures.

Our small team works 8 hour shifts to cover lists running between 8:00am to 8:00pm. Start times are negotiated according to the work demands.
